Over thirty years ago, Jack and Mimi Burgess retired to Camden and bought The Lodge at Camden Hills. Their goal was to create a comfortable spot to relax and enjoy the tranquil Maine coast for both themselves and their guests. On one of their very first brochures for the Lodge, they wrote:

“The Lodge at Camden Hills is a distinctive modern motel of modest size, open year round, and designed for the more discerning traveler and visitor to the mid-coast area. It is desirably located one mile north of town in peaceful surroundings on the eastern slope of Mt. Megunticook with broad views of Penobscot Bay and its numerous islands, adjacent to the 5000 acre Camden Hills State Park and its scenic drive to the top of Mt. Battie, 800 feet above sea level, from which you can enjoy an unobstructed panorama of 50 miles or more.

The immediate area has much to offer. Within minutes there are mountains to climb or the rocky coast to explore, golf, tennis, day sailing, swimming in salt or fresh water, plus hunting or fishing in season. Additionally you can enjoy numerous cultural activities, music, art galleries, open air Shakespeare, unique shops, antiquing, fine restaurants, the busy harbor with its fishing boats, windjammers and bay cruises. In the fall, the foliage is among the finest in the east. In the winter there is skiing at Camden Snow Bowl, fine cross country trails, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and even ice boating on the lakes.

Side trips from Camden are numerous – ferry rides to the larger islands – excursions to Monhegan Island, Boothbay, Pemaquid, Acadia National Park – even flights over the area in a “tine Goose” (a Ford Tri Motor) from the Owls Head Transportation Museum. On the other hand, you may prefer to relax and smell the abundant wild flowers or join the many naturalists who find bird watching, both land and sea, most rewarding.

Camden and the adjacent communities of Lincolnville and Rockport have been a busy summer resort area for many generations. Today, they offer a wide range of activities and enjoyment in all seasons, for all people.”

- Mimi and Jack Burgess

Three generations later, not much has changed. The Lodge is now run by Jack and Mimi’s son and grandsons, who have inherited their love of Maine and desire to share its unique beauty with you.
